Certificate in Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship Print

In this program you will explore the theory and practice of innovation, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. You will apply these concepts to a new business design which has the potential to perform well on financial, social and environmental dimensions. Class activities will focus on how to tap into your innovative and entrepreneurial spirit to create positive change. You will work on reframing problems as opportunities for entrepreneurial approaches. The content of these three courses will be comparable to the nine-credit Entrepreneurship sequence in the MBA program.

Fall Quarter
ENTR 568 Creativity and Right Livelihood (Fall quarter, 3 credits)

This is the first course in the Entrepreneurship series of three courses, which moves from generating ideas, through launching a new product or service, to the stages of growth of a firm. This first course focuses on the principles and practices of creativity. Individual and group creativity. Generating and screening ideas. Translating personal values into career and vocation.

Class Times
Orientation: September 29, 2007, noon - 9 p.m. location TBA.

Classes meet on Saturdays and Sundays on the following weekends: October 20-21, November 17-18, and December 15-16, 2007. Class meeting times are Saturdays 1-6 p.m. and 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.; Sundays 9 a.m. - noon.

Winter Quarter
ENTR 569 Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship I (Winter quarter, 3 credits)

Introduction to entrepreneuring and intrapreneuring. The character, personality and role of the entrepreneur. Exploration of entrepreneurial opportunities in the shift to sustainability. Generating and screening ideas. Business plan development.

Class Times
Classes meet on Saturdays and Sundays on the following weekends: January 26-27, February 23-24, and March 15-16, 2008. Class meeting times are Saturdays 1-6 p.m. and 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.; Sundays 9 a.m. - noon.

Spring Quarter
ENTR 570 Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship II (Spring quarter, 3 credits)

Life in a start-up. Key growth issues by stage of development. Creating an organizational climate conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation. Continued business plan development. Presentation of students’ plans to venture capitalists with feedback.

Classes meet on Saturdays and Sundays on the following weekends: April 5-6, May 3-4, and June 7-8, 2008. Class meeting times are Saturdays 1-6 p.m. and 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.; Sundays 9 a.m. - noon.
